What Is Play Therapy:
Play therapy is a child-led therapy, which helps children aged between 4-12 process emotional and behavioural challenges.
Play therapy uses play and toys as way to connect and communicate with a child in a developmentally appropriate way.
The playroom (the room where play therapy takes place) is a confidential space which allows children to discover themselves, take emotional risks and attempt to re-order, understand and process big feelings or events- from understanding complex family relations and where they fit in the world, to playing out nightmares or trauma with the toys to process and visually acknowledge what they have experienced or felt.
The aim of the sessions is for the child to leave therapy with a better understanding of who they are and how they can overcome emotional challenges.
